The lapis lazuli : semi - precious stones
|

The lapis lazuli is a blue rock which was liked by
old Mesopotamia, in Egypt, in Persia, in Greece and in Rome. The
old city of Ur had one flourishing trade of lapis lazuli as of
the fourth millennium before J. - C. The name is international, of
the Latin word "lapis lazuli" which mean pencil and of the Arab
word "azul" which means blue. When the lapis lazuli was introduced
in Europe, it was called "ultramarinum" which means beyond the
sea. This stone is that of the seventh and ninth year of marriage.
The lapis lazuli was the secrecy of blue in the overseas, the
pigment that painters used to paint the sea and the sky until the
nineteenth century. The lapis lazuli was also very popular in
marquetry. The Romans believed that this lapis lazuli was a
powerful aphrodisiac.
